Senior party leaders held a meeting today to work out agitational programmes against the BJP government.

"The confrontation with the government has just begun. We are drawing up an action plan", KPCC President R V Deshpande told reporters.

"Several suggestions have come in over the next course of stir the party should launch against the state government and we would take a final view by tomorrow," he said.

A Congress delegation, headed by its opposition leader in the state assembly Siddaramaiah, will meet President Pratiba Patil in Delhi on August 16 to plead with her not to give assent to Karnataka's bill to ban cow slaughter, he said.

Two days ago Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappaa had met the President seeking assent for the Bill, which was also being opposed by JDS.

JDS chief H D Devegowda had called on Patil last week to request her not to give assent to the bill.

In a show of strength at the end of its padayatra on August 9, Congress stormed the mining bastion of Bellary, targetting ruling BJP on illegal mining and corruption and warned it that the Centre would not remain a mute spectator to the 'loot' of natural resources.
