The angry widows of farmers who had committed suicide set afire an effigy of the actor in a Vidarbha village, which has reported thousands of suicides by debt-ridden farmers.
The farmers were incensed at the film for suggesting that farmers commit suicide to gain compensation. They have demanded that Aamir make a clarification or his film be banned.
Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti convener Kishore Tiwari objected to a scene which shows a brother telling a farmer to commit suicide so that he can avail compensation. “Such depiction is not only false, but also insensitive,” he said.
