The heritage building nestled in a quite corner of the vibrant City, where the event took place, was tempting, even for a wannabe writer to be at his best, courtesy Army Public School on Kamaraj Road.

In the competition a student had to select from a choice of sentences and pictures and spin a story from any one of them.

For Ellora, from National Public School, Koramangala, topics — like 'I remember the day', 'The water looked deep and inviting'; pictures such as that of a hand- gagged woman, a dilapidated house — were inspiring enough to spark off her creativity.

"The topics are not run-of -the-mill and I enjoyed every moment of writing," said the seventh standard student, who also loves Ruskin Bond's writings.

"The short story competition was the first in the line of DHiE events being held in the current academic year for school students who subscribe to Deccan Herald School Edition," said S V Srinivasan, Deputy General Manager -Circulation, Deccan Herald.

"Schools will be intimated once the results of the short story competition are ready. The names of the winners as well as the prize-winning stories will be published in Deccan Herald School Edition," he added.
