Inefficient officers to face compulsory retirement: CM

Submit a detailed report in two months

Yeddyurappa is learnt to have recently written a letter to Chief Secretary Sudhakar Rao to identify inefficent IAS, IPS, IFS and KAS officers who have crossed 50 years age and who have not been able to keep pace with the functioning of the Government and submit a detailed report on them in two months.

The CM has also asked the CS to send the non-performing officials on compulsory retirement, exercising his powers under the section 285 of Karnataka Civil Service Rules (KCSR). Section 285 of the KCSR empowers the Government to send an employee on compulsory retirement if she/he is unable to cope with the work pressure and could not perform.

For inefficient IAS officers, the CM has asked the CS to write to the Centre and ensure that action is taken against them, officials said.

Sources said Yeddyurappa is not happy with the performance of many officers especially with slow pace of implemention of many popular schemes like Bhagya Lakshmi and bicycle distribution to students. He had cracked the whip against the officials after reviewing the performance of each departments in a meeting with heads of all department, deputy commissioners of all districts and chief executive officers of zilla panchayats recently.

Section 285 of the KCSR has not been in the recent past in the State. For, the Government has to establish with records that an officer is inefficient to invoke the provision, which is very difficult.

As a result, Governments in the recent past have not been able to use the provision on any officer, sources pointed out.
