The details of the applicant should have been passed through HRD Centre of District Employment Exchange. One Balram of Surathkal had applied for the post.
As he had failed to get OBC certificate, the said official asked him to get the certificate.
When Balram took the certificate for submitting, the officer had said that the last date for submitting the application had been over.
Later, the said official demanded bribe for accepting the application. In fact, he had paid Rs 1,000 to the officer on Tuesday. In this background, Balram had complained to the Lokayukta, who in turn trapped the officer while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 on Wednesday.
The officer was produced to the court later in the evening.
