Golf festival from today

“Karnataka, especially Bangalore, is a city made for golf,” said K Jyothiramalingam, Principal Secretary Karnataka Tourism Development, at press conference to announce the event. “Bangalore is blessed with great weather throughout the year and I can easily say one can play golf here all 365 days.”

“The State Government is keen on using golf to attract more tourists. It is a huge revenue earner. With courses in many districts, including an upcoming 135-acre one on the coast of Mangalore, golf with its global appeal is a good medium to expand tourism,” added Jyothiramalingam.

Tourism aside, the three-day event will see nearly 300 amateur golfers competing in a team of three in stableford format. Competiton will be held in five handicap categories with the winner from each earning a ticket to represent India in the World Golfers’ Championship at Hua Hin, Thailand from Oct 30-Nov 06.

The big prize for the team championship winners is a six-night stay in the Golden Chariot.
It was also announced that the All India Junior Golf Championship will be held at Eagleton from Dec 28-31.
