The new initiative taken by MESCOM is being popularised gradually in Mangalore city limits and the authorities are putting their best efforts to introduce the system in all other divisions and sub divisions.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, MESCOM Executive Engineer Sukumar, who is also the in-charge of the ECS, said that a consumer can avail the ECS facility to pay the electricity bill through e-payment without going to the MESCOM offices. “Consumers can collect the mandate forms, which is available in all MESCOM offices, to apply for the ECS facility. Consumers should obtain the endorsement from the bank, where they have an account, in the prescribed form. Later, a copy of it should be returned to the respective MESCOM offices,” he added

MESCOM will send the bills of those customers, who have opted for the ECS, to their respective banks through e-mail. Accordingly, the banks will transfer the bill amount from the customers’ savings account to that of MESCOM, Sukumar explained.

The entry in the bank pass book will be considered as the proof for bill payment, he said adding that customers need not pay additional amount to avail the facility.

A consumer can ask the bank to fix a ceiling for monthly bill deduction so that if the bill amount exceeds the ceiling, the bank can deny payment. In such circumstances, consumer can make payment directly at the MESCOM offices and clarify whether the bill amount was exceeded by oversight or not, he explained.

0.25 per cent discount

Consumers, who opt the ECS facility, will be getting 0.25 per cent discount in the electricity bill, if the previous months’ bill payment was paid through ECS, Sukumar said.
As many as 1,800 consumers have already opted the ECS facility in the Mangalore Circle, which has about 1.5 connections. MESCOM is planningto  give more publicty to attract more consumers towards the Scheme, he said.
