Woman dies; husband booked for murder

In her dying declaration before the police, Rathnamma has accused her husband of setting her on fire.

She has alleged that, Mahadeva, a drunkard picked up a quarrel with her on Ganesha festival day over a petty issue.

 In a fit of rage, he set her ablaze. Following this, the police have booked a murder case against Mahadeva.

However, the cops are yet to arrest him. Vidyaranyapuram police have registered a case and are investigating.

One killed

In a tragic incident, a vegetable vendor was killed in a hit-and-run case in the city,  on September 15.

Kumar (45) of Srirangapatna is that unfortunate. He was carrying a sack of vegetable over his head, and was crossing Sayyaji rao road, when he was knocked down by a motorcycle. He had been rushed to K R Hospital, but in vain.

Devaraja traffic police have registered a case.

Two arrested

Two youth have been arrested on charges of stealing cellphones in the city, on Thursday.
Shekar of Siddapura in Udupi, a student of a college here and his friend Santosh of railway quarters in Yadavagiri are those youth.

The duo along with two others were trying to make good their escape after robbing three girls of their cellphones near Bogadi main road, when they were intercepted by the police, on Wednesday.

Two among them succeeded in bolting away with the booty, while Shekar and Santosh fell in police net.  The cops who had initially taken them into custody for interrogation, arrested them on Thursday only after studying the facts. Saraswathipuram police have registered a case.
