New scheme to eradicate malnutrition among children and pregnant women

She was speaking after inaugurating a awareness programme on Department’s scheme and a legal workshop organised at Ambedkar Bhavan here on Saturday. The event was jointly organised by Department of Women and Child Welfare District Legal Literacy Authority and district Bar Association.

Prabhavati who spoke about Comprehensive Children Development Scheme for the welfare of children, said that scheme had been formed to reduce infant mortality among children below the age of one and between one to three years and maternal mortality.
“The scheme primarily aims to eradicate malnutrition among children and aims to co-ordinate with the schemes of other department for the welfare of the children,” Prabhavati added.

 Anganwadi and Asha workers should take up the job of vaccinating the children and providing nutritious food to women during pregnancy and post pregnancy seriously, she said.

She added that as a part of the scheme nutritious food would be provided to children and women, pre-nursery education to children, vaccination, providing information on various schemes, health check-ups and others facilities.

Prabhavati said that 21,815 children who are below the age of six years, 3,319 pregnant women, 2,657 new mothers and 840 adolescent girls were covered under the scheme.
Later, awareness about various schemes including Child Development Scheme of
Department of Women and Child Welfare, Stree Shakti Scheme, Bhagyalakshmi Scheme, Kishori Shakti Scheme and others were created among the workers and participants of the event.

Empowerment
District Legal Literacy Authority president and Principal District and Sessions judge Veeranna G Tigadi who spoke on the occasion said that only with empowerment of women a society could make progress and development.
In order to spread awareness about law, legal awareness camps are being conducted by the Authority, he added.

Authority member and Secretary Judge B N Laavanyalatha, Judge Garasangi, Vastramutt, Child Development Planning Officer Shivarama Gowda, Handicap and Senior Citizen Welfare Department H S Nagamani and others were present on the occasion.
Lawyers Ratnamma and Venkatarama Reddy spoke on women and law and laws relating to family disputes respectively.

Hundreds of Anganwadi and Asha workers who had come from various parts of the district along with other people took part in the event.
