By making movies that appeal to the general masses and not just critics, director Girish Kasaravalli has proved his mettle, said noted poet Nissar Ahmed here on Monday.

He was speaking at a function organised here to felicitate the national film award winners from the Kannada film industry.

The Lokayukta, Justice N. Santhosh Hegde admitted that he has not seen a film in the last 40 years and thus was not qualified to speak on the topic.

‘No movie in 40 years’

Forty years ago, he used to watch almost three movies a day, with a girl he loved. But once he married the same girl, he had to stop watching girls on the big screen, he said in a lighter vein.

The 57th national awards winners including directors P N Ramachandra, Girish Kasaravalli, actor, Arundhathi Nag, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce president and producer Basant Kumar Patil, Gopalakrishna Pai and author K. Puttaswamy were felicitated on the occasion.
