Last Updated 24 September 2010, 17:34 IST

The simulators would enable police men to sharpen their shooting prowess without wasting bullets.  The police drivers too would not need to  to to driving schools to hone their skills, but can train on simulators as in many countries.

According to M K Srivastava, Additional Director General of Police (Telecommunication, Transport and Modernisation), the department will soon have firing simulators of various types like small arms simulator, interactive small arms training simulators and shooting training and analysis system simulators.

All four wheelers

The department will also be acquiring simulators for all four wheelers being used in the force.  To be procured under the modernisation of police force scheme, the simulators will be in place within next two months, Srivastava said.

Advanced way

“This is the most scientific and advanced way to train our men in the use of various types of weapons, and it would enable our officers to know their faults while firing as the gadget will show the trajectory path, angle, latitude and longitude. And most importantly, we are going to save lots of rounds of bullets by using the system,” he added.

Initially, the department will purchase driving simulators for jeep and other four-wheelers and those simulators will be stationed at the Police Driving and Maintainance School in Yelhanka.

The simulators, each of them costing around Rs. 5.5 lakh will be purchased from 515 Army Base Work Shop.
