A farmer was killed when a wall of the cattle shed collapsed in the backyard of his house in Honenahalli of Belur on Saturday night.
Nanjegowda(53) is the victim who was killed on the spot when a huge wall attached to the cattle shed collapsed following heavy rains. The incident happened at around 8 pm when Nanjegowda was feeding the cattle. Family members had gone to attend a function at Ganesh pandal, as a result of this, the victim did not get early help. Family members discovered this only when they returned at around 10 pm. The revenue officials and the police visited Nanjegowda’s house and carried out necessary investigation.
Belur experienced heavy rains accompanied with thunder and lightning. Rains that started pouring from 5.45 pm on Saturday continued for more than half an hour.
Rain water that overflowed on Chennakeshavaswamy temple road caused inconvenience to the vehicular traffic. As the repair works at the bus stand is going at snail’s pace, the government PU college grounds was converted into a temporary bus stand, which has turned slushy. Boarding a bus from this place is a nightmare, accompanied with danger of losing balance while trying to catch the bus.
The month of September is coming to an end but the Yagachi reservoir not having reached the maximum level, it has caused anxiety among the farmers and the residents. They fear that it may result in shortage of drinking water supply in the region.The reservoir was brimming during the month of July, last year and ‘bagina’ was offered in the month of August.
Halebeedu
Saturday evening witnessed heavy downpour in Halebeedu and surrounding areas and the Dwara Samudra lake has reached level of danger and is in the verge of breaching.
Doddakodihalli, Shivenahalli lakes have also filled to the brim. Crops have been damaged and several agricultural lands are inundated. The farmers who had taken up ginger crop hoping of good profit are upset as the crops are submerged under water.
Hassan
Rains lashed various parts of Hassan city and district on Saturday, but no deaths or casualty were reported.
The rain that lashed the city on Wednesday and Thursday gave a respite to the citizens on Friday, but rains accompanied with thunder and lightning was experienced on Saturday night between 7 pm and 7.45 pm.
Javagal, Belur, Halebeedu, Arakalgud, Sakleshpur and other parts experienced heavy rains.
Chamarajanagar
Heavy rain pounded Chamarajanagar town and surrounding region flooding the roads and low-lying areas here on Sunday evening. The rain water gushed into more than 60 houses exposing the municipal councils’ inefficiency and lack of infrastructure in city. A spell of heavy rains for more than an hour left the important roads in the town submerged, and people had to wade through the water-logged streets. About 60 houses near the Santhemarahalli circle and other residential areas in low-lying areas suffered the brunt when sewage mixed storm water gushed into the houses.
The sewage lines overflowed speaking about the quality of shoddy work on the storm water drains and UGD lines by the contractors. The residents took to task the municipal council officials who visited the area following the deluge. In many households, equipment were washed away in the storm water which flowed with quite a bit of force.
While, the standing crops in the taluk centres are submerged in the rain waters. Though, there was drizzle since past 2-3 days in the town, heavy rain lashed the city on Sunday evening sending the people into a tizzy. The sudden downpour also shocked the people of the town as the city has not witnessed such a deluge in the recent years.
Shankarapura and Galipura areas in the town are worst affected as children and elderly people found it difficult walking through the flooded streets. As the garbage that was dumped lie there without being cleared, residents were seen cursing the municipal officials as garbage mixed water brought a bunch of woes in low-lying areas.
