Dinner at a mill?

Last Updated 26 October 2018, 12:11 IST

Thinking of relaxing and unwinding over good food and some cool drinks this long weekend? Head to ‘XOOX Brewmill’ (pronounced as zooks) in Koramangala 5th block. Spread across 15,000 square feet, this place was originally a factory and a manufacturing unit 10 to 15 years back, which is now converted into a three-floor ‘live craft brewing space’.
The rustic sheen of the mill is still kept intact and can
be seen in its metal gate, stairways and the beams and columns of the ceiling. XOOX is perhaps one of the best examples of ‘adaptive reuse’ genre in architecture.

Coming to food, the menu is extensive and includes modern Indian, Western and Oriental cuisines. All the dishes are curated in a way that it can be paired perfectly with the finely crafted beers.

Choose a place of your preference and enjoy the mill-like setting. We like the ground floor seating with its 3D bar area as the highlight, which is strategically placed against the backdrop of the brewing vats.

Start your meal in a ‘desi’ style with the ‘Dehydrated Dosa’ served with tomato and coconut chutney. We bet you can’t just have one. Save the extra chutney for later, we will tell you why.

The ‘Tibetan Chicken’ is another nibbler you can try. ‘Chicken strips with homemade chilli herb sauce’ is one of a kind. The strips are crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. Experience ‘Chimichurri Prawns’ in a different style. Served in a rustic bread, the prawns are on the spicier side but worth a try.

Even if you are someone who doesn’t eat beetroot, the ‘Beetroot and Sev Tikki’ will be your new favourite. Try them with the leftover tomato and coconut chutney. Oh! It’s so yum.
The ‘Cheesy Golgappa’ is another quirky starter one can try. The deep fried stuffed ‘golgappas’ served with garlic sauce is mouth-watering.

There are about eight different styles of crafted beers including Apple Cider, Belgian Wit, Citrus IPA, Hefeweizen, Japanese Dry Blonde Ale, Nitro Milk Stout, Scotch Brown Ale and Smoked Amber Ale. Begin by trying them all and then pick your favourite. We recommend the Belgian Wit and Hefeweizen.

For the main course, ‘Yi Mein Noodles’ is a must try. It was perfectly flavoured and quite filling. If you are a North-Indian cuisine fan, the ‘Amritsari Bharwan Aloo with Spicy Dal Makhani and Makki Roti’ is the dish to try. The subtly spiced dry aloo complements the spicy dal makhani. Makki roti completes the taste. Surprisingly, the ‘Stuffed Tandoori Chicken Breast’ tastes great with the Makki roti too.

The portions are quite filling but keep some space for you can’t miss the desserts.

If you are a chocolate lover the ‘Peanut Brownie and Roasted Almond Ice cream’ will be a treat to your sweet tooth. If you want to experiment, the ‘Buttermilk Panacotta’ is a good option.

‘XOOX Brewmill’ is located at 8, Koramangala Industrial Layout, Near HDFC Bank, Koramangala 5th Block. For details, call 8296008571.
