The assembly polls in Jharkhand for the 81-member House was scheduled to be held in two phases. Phase 1 was on November 13 and phase 2 is on November 20, with counting taking place on November 23.

The state of Jharkhand, since being carved out of Bihar on November 15, 2000 has seen a total of four assembly elections.

In the first phase, voting was held in 43 assembly constituencies.

While the I.N.D.I.A. bloc partners will contest the elections together, with the Congress and JMM competing for 70 of the 81 seats, while the remaining 11 will be contested by the RJD and Left parties.

For 2005, the first ever elections in Jharkhand, there were a total of 1,77,66,202 electors and there were 1,01,31,767 votes polled. The turnout was pegged at 57.0 per cent.

For 2009, there were 1,80,45,638 electors and there were 1,02,79,009 votes polled. The turnout stood at again, 57.0 per cent, same as the 2005.

For 2014 elections, there were 2,08,38,445 electors and total votes polled stood at 1,38,68,176. The voter turnout was 66.6 per cent.

During 2019, the last elections, 2,23,48,194 electors were recorded and 1,48,43,858 votes were polled. The turnout was 66.4 per cent.

Jharkhand BJP president Babulal Marandi, state minister and JMM leader Bebi Devi and several candidates filed their nomination papers for the upcoming assembly elections on Monday.

The nomination process for the first phase of polls to 43 assembly constituencies, scheduled on November 13, concluded on October 25, during which 805 candidates filed their papers.
