It's no secret that Rani Mukerji emerged as one of Bollywood's most bankable stars in the mid 2000s courtesy her impressive body of work and sincere performances. She shared screen space with the biggest names from B-town, which established her as a bonafide 'A-lister'. On Sunday, as the 'Queen of hearts' turns a year older, here is a look at five films that prove she is talent personified.

Saathiya (2002)

Saathiya was directed by Shaad Ali and proved to be a treat for those fond of romantic dramas. Rani's scenes with Vivek Oberoi clicked with fans due to the natural chemistry between the two. The film, a remake of the Tamil movie Alaipayuthey, did well at the box office and helped 'Suhani ' consolidate her standing in the industry.

Hum Tum (2004)

The Kunal Kohli-directed movie hit the right notes because of Rani's crackling chemistry with Saif Ali Khan and emerged as a big hit at the box office. It featured popular songs and a breezy romantic track, which clicked with the audience. The film had an impressive cast that included Rishi Kapoor, Kirron Kher and Rati Agnihotri.

Black (2005)

Black is widely regarded as the finest film of the actor's career and featured her in the role of a differently-abled young woman who shares a special bond with her teacher. Rani did justice to the character, hitting the right notes with her body language. The film was based on activist Helen Keller's life.

No One Killed Jessica (2011)

The film was inspired by the Jessica Lal murder case and featured Rani in the role of a bold journalist, who fights for truth and juistice. The actor's swag and effective dialogue delivery added a new dimension to the hard-hitting movie. No One Killed Jessica starred Vidya Balan as the parallel lead did reasonably well at the box office while receiving rave reviews.

Mardaani (2014)

Rani essayed the role of a fearless cop in the Yash Raj Films-back Mardaani, which revolved around what happens when the protaginist tries to put an end to human trafficking. The star carried the action scenes with effortless ease and broke stereotypes with her work. Her intense yet realistic performance helped Mardaani make the desired impact.
