Maths wizard and founder of Super-30 Anand Kumar said the biopic starring Hrithik Roshan is a tribute to all the teachers who play a pivotal role in imparting quality education and ushering in real change in the society through generational transformation.

Anand is known for his impeccable record in helping poor students (out of those selected every year in his coaching institute Super-30) crack the joint entrance examination (JEE) for admissions to different IITs in the country. He was speaking to Deccan Herald here on Wednesday, a day when the poster of his biopic ‘Super 30’ was released. The release coincided with the Teachers’ Day.

The movie, which also stars debutant actress Mrunal Thakur and Bihar-born national award winner Pankaj Tripathi, is slated to be released on January 25.

“The movie ‘Super 30’ has focused not just on me, but has depicted the role of teachers in general who shape the nation’s future. It’s a tribute to all such teachers who shape the nation’s destiny by preparing the next generation with education,” said Anand.

“Teaching has always been viewed as a revered profession. If my film could inspire the new generation to take up the job of a teacher, it would be a great achievement,” said Anand, whose success story had been a source of inspiration for many.

Every year since its inception in 2002, Anand selects 30 meritorious students – mostly from poor families and grooms them for IIT. The students stay with Anand. They are provided free food, stay and lodging. Anand, who never accepts any donation from anyone, bears the expenses (from his income which he earns from his another institute Ramanujam School of Mathematics).

Most of the 30 students hail from the underprivileged sections of the society. They could be the son of a daily wage earner, roadside vendor, private tutor or a farmer.

"In fact, Super-30 is just a big family for me, where my wife Ritu (a former engineer, who earlier worked with Wipro), brother Pranav and all my team members work in tandem. This gives me solace and strength to carry on,” Anand told Deccan Herald.

Little wonder, Time, Newsweek, Monocle, Focus magazines or Discovery, Al Jazeera, and Japanese, French and Chinese channels have widely covered Super-30 over the years. Now, Anurag Kashyap has decided to showcase the maths wizard’s life on silver screen.
