Last Updated 05 May 2018, 08:34 IST

Actor Kamal Haasan seems to have mastered the art of knowing the pulse of the people of Tamil Nadu. The popular actor will host the second season of Bigg Boss (Tamil), a reality television show, after the first edition became a runaway success, thanks to his social messages laced with political overtones.

In fact, Kamal used the first season of Bigg Boss aired on Star Vijay TV from June 25 to September 30, 2017, as a precursor to his political plunge. He utilised the platform actively to flag social issues, to express his opinion on a slew of issues.

Despite Bigg Boss being an entertainment show, Kamal discussed social issues concerning the state. The actor dedicated certain episodes to causes like opposition to NEET, the importance of Dravidian politics and its crucial role in Indian polity.

Though he has now launched his political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, Kamal feels appearing on the small screen would help him send his political messages in a strong and effective manner.

The second season is likely to be aired in June and will continue till September. The actor completed the promo shoot for the much-awaited television programme on Thursday.

“Yes, Kamal Haasan is hosting the second edition of Bigg Boss (Tamil) and the promo shooting have been completed,” a source close to the actor told DH.

The show has been designed in such a way that it does not affect Kamal's political work. “There will be no clash. The party work will continue and Kamal Haasan will continue to devote all his energy towards MNM. Bigg Boss will not interfere in his political assignment,” the source added.

The actor has said that he would quit cinema after completing two pending projects — Sabaash Naidu and Indian-2.

Political analyst Bernard D' Sami told DH that television is a more powerful medium compared to Twitter, Facebook or any other social media tool. “Definitely, he will use the show all the more to express his political messages, ideology and standpoint of his political party. He will use the show for his political communication,” he said.
