New Zealand PM applauds cinematic legacy of India, recreates iconic dance step from ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai’

Mumbai: As he appreciated Indian cinema’s rich legacy, visiting New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon joined for the iconic hook step from the Bollywood classic ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai’. 

The 2000 blockbuster -  ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai’ -  which was filmed in New Zealand, marks its 25th anniversary in 2025, adding a special significance to the moment. 

The film is produced, directed and written by veteran actor-filmmaker Rakesh Roshan and stars Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel. The music was given by Rajesh Roshan. 

During his visit to Mumbai, Luxon visited the National Museum of Indian Cinema (NMIC), under the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. 

The Prime Minister was warmly welcomed by NFDC’s General Manager D Ramakrishnan, along with Marketing Head of NMIC  Jayita Ghosh and actor Anand Vijay Joshi. 

Following the reception,  Luxon was given a guided tour of Gulshan Mahal, which showcases the 100-year history of Indian cinema. 

The tour continued into the museum’s auditorium, where he explored various exhibits showcasing Indian Cinema’s rich legacy. 

Ramakrishnan and Ghosh provided insights into the evolution of Indian cinema.

Reflecting on his visit, PM Luxon remarked: “It is truly fascinating to see how the history of Indian cinema has evolved. This visit has been a mesmerizing experience, and I am grateful for the opportunity to witness such an iconic part of India’s cultural heritage.” 

Expressing their gratitude, Ramakrishnan and  Ghosh stated: “It was an absolute honor for NMIC and NFDC to host Prime Minister Luxon and celebrate the deep cultural ties between India and New Zealand.”

The visit concluded on a nostalgic note as Luxon, joined by the New Zealand Ambassador and Consul General, participated in the iconic hook step from the Bollywood classic Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai.
