'Roberrt' box office prediction: Darshan-starrer set to open on a solid note

'Roberrt' is slated to hit the screens on March 11

Kannada actor Darshan is gearing up for the release of his upcoming movie Roberrt, slated to hit the screens on March 11. The biggie has piqued the curiosity of the fans as it is the first film, featuring an 'A-lister', to arrive in theatres after the Covid-19 lockdown,

Here is a look at the box office prospects of Roberrt.

The background

The film comes at a time when 'D Boss' is going through a good phase on the work front. He impressed fans with his work in the 2019 release Yajamana, which marked his first collaboration with actor Rashmika Mandanna. The action drama collected around Rs 7 crore at the Karnataka box office while receiving decent reviews. He subsequently hit it out of the park with Kurukshetra, which collected nearly Rs 13 crore on the first day. Many feel Roberrt has the potential to help him continue his dream run.

Kurukshetra cannot be used as the yardstick for judging the box office performance of Roberrt. Munirathna's magnum opus was a mythological drama with a star-studded cast that included Arjun Sarja, Sneha, 'Crazy Star' Ravichandran and Sonu Sood. Roberrt seems to be in a similar zone as Yajamana even though the plots are completely different.

Will Roberrt outperform Yajamana?

Actor Dhruva Sarja's Pogaru, the first major film to hit the screens after the lockdown, opened to a phenomenal response at the box office and collected around Rs 10 crore on the opening day. Roberrt is likely to outperform the Action Prince-starrer as Darshan is a much more established star than the young hero. As such, it is likely to fare better than Yajamana

The bottom line

The phenomenal advance booking for Roberrt, especially in mass centres, indicates that the film has the potential to shatter several box office records. The opening day collection is likely to be between Rs 12 crore and Rs 15 crore, depending on the word of mouth. It is unlikely to face any competition in Karnataka as this week's new release Roohi and Fauji Calling cater to a completely different audience.
