Farmers requested to enrol for crop loan waiver

Farmers who have availed crop loans from commercial banks may register their names in the commercial banks for the loan waiver scheme before January 1, said Deputy Commissioner M K Srirangaiah.

“A village accountant has been deputed in every commercial bank branch and the farmers may enrol for the scheme by submitting records such as Aadhaar card, ration card and the survey number of the land guaranteed for the loan availed.”

Srirangaiah said that the farmers who have availed loans on and after April 1, 2009, and those who have their liabilities due, up to December 31, 2017, are eligible for the loan waiver scheme. A family can avail a maximum of Rs 2 lakh of crop loan waiver.

Farmers paying income tax, employees of the government, semi-government and aided institutions and those availing monthly pension of Rs 15,000 are not eligible to avail the scheme. The beneficiaries under the loan scheme of cooperative banks cannot apply for loan waiver scheme at the commercial banks, he added.
