Flipkart launches new range of washing machines

Flipkart on Tuesday launched a new range of washing machines under its private label MarQ by Flipkart.

Targeted at the upcoming festive season market, the new line of washing machines address some of the key customer need gaps such as top-of-the-line quality, superior tech-specification, affordable pricing and energy efficiency.

Flipkart Private Labels and Electronics Vice President & Head Adarsh K Menon said Indians have unique needs and preferences unlike any other market, and MarQ products are nothing short of made to order to suit those very necessities that we identified in our course of making these products.

"Our competitive edge was to meet the need gaps in any category that Flipkart has a private label play in. MarQ by Flipkart washing machines have enjoyed great customer feedback and we continue to build on that as we monitor reviews closely," he said.

Launched at Rs 6,499, the MarQ by Flipkart washing machines come in two washing capacities of 6.5 kgs and 7.5 kgs, the most common among medium sized families.

The launch of front load fully automatic range was preceded by the semi-automatic and top load washing machines earlier this year. Flipkart expects pricing appliances at least 15-20% lower than other leading brands will help majority of Indians to buy these products.

MarQ by Flipkart is a private label launched in October as part of the broader strategy to reduce its dependency on mobile sales. Flipkart CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy is driving the initiative to form different private labels in the company primarily to drive revenue generation.

The company launched Flipkart SmartBuy in December 2016 as its private label. Then Flipkart launched Divastri brand in the fashion category. Sachin Bansal, the founder of the company, separately created a new private label business called Billion and launched mobile phones along with Smartron.
