FoodyBuddy raises Rs 6 crore from Prime Venture

FoodyBuddy, an online platform for buying or selling home-cooked food, on Wednesday, raised Rs 6 crore from Prime Venture Partners.

The Pre Series A funding will help the company to further strengthen its presence in five more cities and expand the team size.

Interacting with DH, FoodyBuddy co-founder Anup G said the company is building a community for food lovers and it should always engage with them. "We are raising the fund for the first time. It will help us strengthen expand our product and spend on our marketing efforts," he said.

FoodyBuddy, founded by Akil Sethuraman, Rachna Rao and Anup Gopinath in June 2016, began piloting the service since early 2017 with a focus on gated communities.

The company has already established a community in 100 apartment complexes in the city. The company claims that it has sold more than 2,50,000 meals till date and reaches 20,000 households.

"Our vision is to bring together food makers in the neighbourhood and give them an opportunity to make money. Also, it will help buyers to get access to homemade food," said Anup.

The company has on-boarded 1,000 chefs and 20,000 active users. "We are planning to bring on board one lakh cooks so that there will be seamless a supply ecosystem. Right now, we are helping them in packaging and delivering the food," said co-founder Rachna Rao.

FoodyBuddy has built a customer facing app and another app for cooks. Commenting on partnering with FoodyBuddy, Prime Venture Partner Managing Partner Amit Somani said the founders of the company are passionate about technology to serve the wants and desires of consumers and chefs around the country. "We see a huge potential in serving a large base of customers who are looking for authentic, comforting, and a variety of home-cooked meals," said Somani.

The company is also planning to come up with a private kitchen to further cater to consumer demand.
