Minister for IT/BT, Science and Technology, and Large and Medium Scale Industries K J George said that around 35,000 jobs would be created from the industries that are expected to become functional shortly with a total investment of Rs 4,000 crore in Mysuru region.

Addressing reporters after a meeting with the representatives of industries and government officials here on Tuesday, he said, infrastructure is available in the region for establishment of more industries. “The government policy, since the previous government of Siddaramaiah, has been to encourage setting up of industries in tier-II cities like Mysuru. However, the officials have been directed to expedite acquisition of pending lands,” he said.

“With the highest investment of Rs 2,500 crore, Asian Paints, and other nine industries are coming up in Mysuru district. The industries have been directed to give priority to local residents while recruiting employees. The other investors are Parle Industries (Rs 600 crore), Kenwood (Rs 500 crore), Container Corporation of India (Rs 200 crore), Pepsi (Rs 150 crore), Rucha Engineering (Rs 137.85 crore), Carlsberg (Rs 130 crore), Cheera Breweries (Rs 100 crore), Metal Man Auto (Rs 96.75 crore) and Mindas Sai (Rs 16 crore),” he said. “There are proposals of three more companies — Gebril, Continental and Pricol. While eight acres of land has already been acquired for the Textile Park, there is a demand for a total of 25 acres of land. As a result of the meetings held by then chief minister Siddaramaiah and late Cooperation minister H S Mahadeva Prasad with industrialist in Coimbatore, textile companies are opening their units in Badanaguppe-Kellamballi Industrial Area in Chamarajanagar,” he said.

Women’s park

He said 50 acres of land has been earmarked for the women entrepreneurs park and the works are under progress to provide necessary infrastructure. “Connectivity problem will also be solved soon as the expansion of the Mysuru Airport and its airstrip is underway. Land acquisition is not a problem as the state government will pitch in. The blueprint for the expansion has been drawn and the Airport Authority of India will execute the works soon,” he said.

Tech Summit in Nov

George said a Tech Summit will be held in Bengaluru in November to attract investments in technology driven industries. He said investors from various nations are expected to participate in the summit which will showcase newer technology.
