At least 10 people were killed on Saturday and nearly 15 others injured when a tempo crashed into a truck on the Latur-Mukhed road in Maharashtra's Nanded district.

The accident took place around 9.30 am when the tempo carrying people to a marriage ceremony rammed into an empty sewage tanker coming from the opposite direction of the road.

The injured victims, all hailing from Latur’s Ausa, were rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

Efforts are underway to identify the bodies. At least eight of the victims died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries during treatment.

Minister of State for Textile Arjun Khotkar who is the Guardian Minister for Jalna district, said that the government has taken cognizance of the incident.

“The highway deaths are a matter of concern,” he added.
