13 students end lives in Mumbai so far

Reshim Kasbe was a 12th standard student of Ambedkar College. Kasbe hanged himself using his mother's dupatta on Monday evening. With no suicide note left behind, police are trying to find out what drove the 18-year-old to take such an extreme step.

“There is no suicide note. We don’t know the reason yet,” said Nehru Nagar police inspector Shivaji Erande.

In yet another incident, 15-year-old Rajesh Yadav, a 9th standard student of St Joseph's School in Juhu, hanged himself. He had been suspended from the school for a day for bunking classes. He returned home and committed suicide.

“We had called his parents to school and we suspended him in front of them. Then we sent him home with them," said Sister Beena CJ, Principal, St Joseph's School, Vile Parle.
Rajesh’s suicide sparked a protest by grieving family and neighbours outside the school.

Since January 3, Mumbai witnessed a spate of deaths. Among them were an 11-year-old aspiring dancer, Neha Sawant who hanged herself in her Dombivli home after her parents refused her permission to pursue a dancing career. Another equally shocking deaths were those of a 20-year-old first year MBBS student, Bhajanpreet Bhullar of D.Y. Patil College. There was also reports of a 13-year-old Sushant Patil who hanged himself in the toilet of Shardashram Boys High School (Dadar).
