<p>Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), a central PSU, would bring an expert from the US to plug the blowout in a gas well in Sivasagar district, which occurred on June 12.</p><p>"Around 350 people have been provided shelter in a school and some other places. People are suffering like anything. Children are unable to go to schools and colleges, people are unable to resume normal activities and there is a lot of anger among them. Today Chief Secretary Ravi Kota spoke to ONGC Chairman Arun Kumar Singh and the latter assured that they are bringing an expert from the US to plug the gas leak," Sarma told reporters at Dibrugarh, a neighbouring district. </p>.Himanta defends shoot-at-sight order in Dhubri, cites 'huge conspiracy' against Assam.<p>Sarma announced a compensation of Rs 25,000 to each of the affected families. </p><p>On Monday, Sarma visited the affected areas and assured all possible help to the affected people. </p><p>The gas well has been witnessing a blowout, an uncontrolled release of gas due to the failure of the pressure control system. The incident triggered panic among local residents as the ONGC and the district administration asked them to shift to a safer place out of fear of an outbreak of fire.</p><p>Union petroleum minister Hardeep Singh Puri also held a meeting in New Delhi to take stock of the situation. </p>
