Samajwadi Party gave tickets to criminals after taking money from them: UP CM

The BJP’s Uttar Pradesh government has ensured a fear-free environment for the people by reining in criminals in the state, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said in Ghaziabad on Monday.

The Samajwadi Party, which has been protecting criminals, on the contrary, has now given tickets to anti-social elements and history sheeters for several assembly seats, including Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Siyana, Bulandshahar and Loni in western Uttar Pradesh, the CM said.

By giving tickets to criminals, the SP has exposed its nexus with the anti-social element as the people fielded by the party in the area have been behind the exodus of people and communal riots, he added.

The Election Commission of India has postponed the Punjab Assembly elections to February 20 in view of Guru Ravidas Jayanti.Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had urged the poll panel to reconsider February 14 as poll dates for the state as over 20 lakh Scheduled Caste voters go to religious visits on Ravidas Jayanti. The Party further said that a sizable number of SC voters visit Varanasi from February 10 to 16 every year.Later, BJP and AAP made similar requests.

AAP's chief ministerial candidate for Punjab polls to be announced on Tuesday: Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that his party's chief ministerial candidate for Punjab assembly polls will be announced on Tuesday.

He had on January 13 asked the people of Punjab to suggest names of their preferred chief ministerial candidates and launched a mobile number for the purpose.

Kejriwal then said that though he had wanted party MP Bhagwant Mann's name to be declared as the chief ministerial candidate, the latter insisted that the people of Punjab should make this decision.

"The name of the party's chief ministerial candidate for Punjab assembly elections will be announced tomorrow at 12 noon," Kejriwal told reporters on the sidelines of an event.

Yogi Adityanath 2nd UP CM to contest from Gorakhpur district

Yogi Adityanath, who has been declared BJP candidate from Gorakhpur will be the second leader to contest from the district as a Chief Minister after Tribhuvan Narayan Singh, who lost in 1971.

Singh had contested from Maniram assembly seat of the Gorakhpur district while being a Chief Minister. There was a mixed reaction from political parties after Yogi Adityanath was made the BJP candidate from Gorakhpur Sadar seat on Saturday.

Main opposition Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday took a jibe at the BJP's decision to field Yogi Adityanath from the Gorakhpur constituency, saying the saffron party has already sent him home.

Gorakhpur is the hometown of Adityanath.

BJP likely to go solo this time in Manipur

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which wrested power in Manipur for the first time in 2017 in alliance with two political parties and supported by independent MLAs, this time most probably fight alone, party leaders indicated. Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik and Assam Minister Ashok Singhal, BJP's in-charges for the Manipur elections, separately indicated that the saffron party is keen to contest the elections on its own this time. However, both Bhowmik and Singhal did not completely rule out the pre-poll alliance with the like-minded parties.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said Manohar Parrikar contributed to Goa's development but his family is facing disrespect after his demise. "Utpal Parrikar, his son, must be given a ticket from Panaji. Every political party contesting polls must support him and bring him to power," Raut said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in his constituency Varanasi, for the first time after the announcement of the Assembly elections, on Tuesday.

BJP Kashi region unit president Mahesh Chand Srivastava said that the Prime Minister's interaction with the party workers from Kashi will take place through the NaMo app at 11 amon Tuesday.
