New video shows suspect going upstairs in building with his face covered

A new video surfaced on Friday showing the suspect in the actor Saif Ali Khan attack case going upstairs in his building in Mumbai's Bandra area with his face covered and carrying a bag. 

 According to a police official, the attacker has been captured in CCTV cameras cautiously climbing the stairs at 1.37 am before intruding into the actor's house.

The man had his face covered and was carrying a bag. In a CCTV footage that surfaced on Thursday, the assailant, wearing a red scarf and carrying a backpack, was scurrying down the stairs from the sixth floor of the 'Satguru Sharan building, where the actor lives, at around 2.30 am. His face was clearly visible in the first footage.

No arrest has been made in the case yet, but a man who resembled the attacker has been detained for questioning, an official said.

According to media reports, Eliyama Philip, a Malayali nurse, employed as caretaker and nurse for Saif's son Jehangir Ali Khan, nicknamed Jeh, woke up around 2 am after hearing a sound in Jeh's room and found the bathroom light on.

Philip had given dinner to Jeh on Wednesday night and put him to sleep around 11pm. She too slept on the floor in the same room along with a nanny.

The nurse saw 'a short, thin man' come out of the bathroom and move towards Jeh's bed. When she stood up to confront him, the man said in Hindi, 'Koi Awaaz Nahi...'

When the nurse tried to wake up Jeh, the man reportedly attacked her but she still raised an alarm.

"In the scuffle, he attacked me with the blade. I got hurt on my wrist. I asked him what he wants. He said he wants money and he needs Rs 1 crore," Philip said.

Hearing the nurse and nanny's cries, Saif and Kareena both woke up and rushed to the spot.

The intruder then attacked Saif, knifing him, before escaping.

Auto rickshaw driver Bhajan Singh Rana said he was not aware that the passenger with blood-soaked ‘kurta’ he ferried to Lilavati Hospital in the wee hours of Thursday was Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. “It was only when we reached the hospital gate that he called the guard to fetch a stretcher, saying he was Saif Ali Khan,” the auto driver told reporters in Mumbai on Friday. He said when he was passing by the Satguru Darshan building where the actor stayed, a woman and a few others asked him to stop the rickshaw. “Then the person whose white kurta was soaked in blood got in the auto. I noticed he had neck and back injuries, but did not notice the hand injury,” he said. “He (Saif) walked into the auto. There was a seven-eight year old boy who also boarded the rickshaw,” he said, when asked if the actor’s son Taimur accompanied him to the hospital. The earlier plan was to go to the Holy Family hospital in Bandra but then Saif asked to be taken to Lilavati Hospital, also in Bandra, the driver said. “When we reached the hospital, he called out to the guard at the gate and told him: Please bring a stretcher. I am Saif Ali Khan,” he said, adding the auto reached the hospital around 3 am. The driver said he did not take fare amount from the actor after he dropped him at the hospital within seven to eight minutes. The actor was speaking with the boy in the auto, Rana said, adding there was also another young man in the auto, in an apparent reference to Ibrahim Ali Khan, the 23-year-old son of Saif and his first wife, Amrita Singh.

Mumbai cops question carpenter in Saif knife attack case; no arrest made so far

The man picked up for questioning by police in connection with the knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is a carpenter by profession and had worked at his flat two days before the stabbing incident, an official said on Friday. The official identified the man as Waris Ali Salmani and said he was taken to the Bandra police station for questioning after he resembled the intruder who stabbed Khan (54) multiple times in his 12th floor apartment in the early hours of Thursday during a robbery attempt.

Intruder changed clothes to throw police off scent

As per an Indian Express report, the assailant allegedly escaped the actor’s building and then changed his clothes in order to dodge the police. After police viewed the CCTV footage from cameras in the Bandra area, the accused was spotted wearing a light-coloured shirt. But the building security footage showed the accused in a full-sleeve, dark-coloured T-shirt. The police told the news outlet, “The accused changed clothes... this makes us believe that he could be a hardened criminal having a history of committing crimes.”
