<p>Two weeks after a schoolboy was critically injured after being accidentally hit by a javelin in a school playground in south-east Delhi, the 11-year-old succumbed to his injuries at AIIMS Trauma Centre on Monday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Roshan Lama, a class 6 student, was declared dead at around 10:15 am. He was admitted to the hospital on October 1 after a practice session of javelin throw went wrong in Chittaranjan Park’s of Sarvodaya Government Higher Secondary School.<br /><br />Roshan was injured while attempting to push aside his classmate who was in the way of a stray javelin thrown by a class 12 student. He was taken to a nearby private hospital and referred to AIIMS Trauma Centre when his condition deteriorated.<br /><br />His family members were told by doctors that his chances of survival were bleak due to critical injuries and a fractured skull. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, the 11-year-old boy had never shown any significant improvement.<br /><br />“His brain was injured when he was brought to the hospital and it had stopped responding for a few days. Since his admission in the hospital, he was kept in the Intensive Care Unit on ventilator. He was also on blood pressure maintenance support,” a senior doctor said.<br /><br />“We tried to keep his vital parameters stable through medicines and antibiotics, but that failed to save him. We tried our best,” the doctor added. Doctors had succeeded in repairing his skull by performing an operation and removing the fractured pieces of his skull.<br />The grief stricken family alleged that not a single official either from the government or the police met them in the last 14 days when Roshan was fighting for his life. <br /><br />Roshan’s father Suraj said that he had been waiting to receive assistance from the government, but no one turned up at the hospital.<br /><br />“I want the school principal Niranjan Lal Sharma to be sent behind the bars. Two teachers have already been arrested, but I fail to understand why he has not been arrested so far,” Suraj added.<br /><br />He insisted that Niranjan should be held guilty for any untoward incident at the school. <br /><br />“I feel that he is being protected by the government maybe for money or due to his contacts with senior officers,” Suraj said.<br /><br />Initially a case under Section 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life) of the Indian Penal Code was filed with Chittaranjan Park, which has now been made to a case under Section 304-A (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC. <br /><br />Asked if any action is planned against the school principal, police said that no charges have been framed against the principal as it was solely the instructor’s negligence.<br /><br />The two accused in the case, Sushil Sharma and Hitesh, both physical training instructors at the school, have been arrested in connection with the case and are currently out on bail. The boy who threw the javelin had also been apprehended and sent to a juvenile home.</p>
