Congress to hold 4,900 'Save Constitution' rallies, door-to-door campaign to push ‘Nyay Path’ agenda

New Delhi: Congress will organise around 4,900 ‘Save Constitution’ rallies and meetings at state, district and Assembly constituency level as well as conduct door-to-door campaign between April 25 and May 30, as it plans to popularise its ‘Nyay Path’ resolution adopted in Ahmedabad to highlight its fight for social, economic and political justice.

The party will also hold 40 press conferences across the country between April 21 and 23 against the Enforcement Directorate chargesheet against top leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case, calling it a “lie-sheet” and to send a message that its leaders would not be silenced despite being targeted by the Narendra Modi government.

The Save Constitution rallies will be held at state-level between April 25 and 30 while district level programmes will be organised between May 3 and 10 and Assembly constituency-level meetings between May 11 and 17. The ‘Ghar Ghar Samvidhan Bachao Abhiyan’ would be held between May 20 and 30.

Incidentally, the start of the Save Constitution campaign, which would highlight the contents of the ‘Nyay Path’ resolution that also highlights how the Modi government allegedly violates the Constitution, on April 25 coincides with the date set by a special court in Delhi for a hearing on the chargesheet.

The decisions were taken at a meeting of Congress General Secretaries, in-charges and heads of frontal organisations chaired by party president Mallikarjun Kharge here and attended by senior leaders KC Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra among others. Rahul did not attend as he was flying to the United States.

Kharge referred to the ED chargesheet and Waqf law in his opening remarks and attacked the Modi government.

Kharge said inclusion of the names of Sonia and Rahul in the chargesheet was “part of a big conspiracy” and “no matter whose name is included, we are not going to be scared. There is no doubt that all this is being done out of revenge…BJP people are misleading people by lying. We have to tell the truth to the public.” 

He also said it cannot be “mere coincidence” that the ED action came close on the heels of AICC Session in Ahmedabad and referred to the ED raids against the then Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel ahead of the AICC Plenary Session in Raipur in 2023. “His (Modi’s) intention was not to let the (Raipur) Session happen. Still it took place,” he said.

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh said, “those who are operating washing machines are misusing the ED against the Congress. The intention is to divert attention…It is not a chargesheet but a lie-sheet.”

He said the meeting discussed more about how to take forward the message of the Ahmedabad AICC Session to the people,” he said.
