Fire at Kolkata Metro yard, services disrupted

Kolkata Metro services were disrupted for about half an hour on Wednesday due to the lightning-induced fire at its Tollygunge yard.

Three fire engines rushed to the spot and doused the flames.

According to Kolkata Metro officials, the incident took place at around 5.40 pm and the Fire Brigade was immediately informed.

" Fire Brigade officials asked us to switch off power to the third rail so that they can put out the blaze. This resulted in the partial suspension of Metro Rail services, " said a Kolkata Metro official.

Kolkata Metro spokesperson Indrani Banerjee said that during the period of distribution truncated service was run between the Maidan and Dum Dum Metro stations.

She also said that Metro Rail services became normal at 6.14 pm.

The incident comes a day after Metro Rail services were disrupted for about half an hour at Tollygunge station after spark was noticed at the third rail.
