<p>Guwahati: Seven persons died - six in Assam and one in Manipur - due to flood in the past 24 hours, while the number of affected persons in the two Northeastern states increased to nearly 8 lakh on Tuesday.</p><p>Six fresh deaths reported in Assam's Sribhumi, Hailakandi, Cachar, Morigaon, Sonitpur and Tinsukia districts took the death toll due to flood and landslides since Sunday to 17 (12 in flood, five in landslides). Manipur reported its first death on Tuesday and the number of affected people increased to over 1.64 lakh. </p>.Flood alert sounded in catchment areas of Harangi reservoir in Karnataka .<p>This increased the death toll due to the nature's fury across the eight states in the Northeastern region since May 31 to 42. </p><p>The daily flood bulletin issued by Assam State Disaster Management Authority on Tuesday evening said 1,506 villages across 21 districts (out of 35) remained inundated, while 39,746 people were provided shelters in 511 relief camps. </p><p>At least eight rivers including the Brahmaputra and the Barak were flowing above the danger level at several places. Parts of Assam reported moderate to heavy rains while weather forecast predicted more rains. </p><p>Army said their personnel evacuated more than 1,500 people in Imphal Valley since May 31. Many areas in Imphal and surrounding areas remained inundated even on Tuesday, army said. Assam Rifles also continued their rescue efforts.</p><p><strong>PM dials CMs</strong></p><p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi called CMs of Assam and Sikkim and Governor of Manipur on Tuesday and took stock of the flood situation. The PM assured all possible help to tackle the disaster. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma visited flood-hit Silchar in South Assam and took stock of the flood situation. </p>
