A day after attending a rally led by tainted former chief minister of Haryana Omprakash Chautala, former Army chief Gen V K Singh on Friday backed a farmers’ organisation to oppose freeing the sugar sector and gave a call to gherao Parliament.

Farmers’ organisation, Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Sanghatan (RKMS) is demanding rejection of Rangarajan Committee report, which has recommended doing away with State Advisory Price (SAP) and cane reservation area.

Addressing a press conference, the former Army chief and RKMS convenor V M Singh criticised the recommendation and said that it will adversely affect farmers in the northern states. They said, revenue sharing formula suggested by the committee is not fair and does not provide a level-playing field to farmers from the northern states.
