Government agrees to revise Advocate (Amendment) Bill; BCI chairman welcomes decision

New Delhi: In view of serious concerns expressed by lawyers community, the Union government on Saturday decided to revise the Advocate (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

According to an official statement, revised Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2025 would be processed afresh for public consultation.

The Advocate (Amendment) Bill, 2025, was made available for public consultation on February 13, 2025, on the website of the Department of Legal Affairs demonstrating the government's commitment towards transparency and broader engagement with stakeholders and the public.

"However, considering number of suggestions and concerns received, it has been decided to conclude the consultation process now. Based on the feedback received, the draft bill, as revised will be processed afresh for consultation with stakeholders," it said.

The Bar Council of India's chairman and senior advocate Manan Kumar Mishra welcomed the government's decision to revise the bill. It urged all the Bar associations, which gave a call for abstention, to resume their court works on Monday, February 24.
