GRSE receives order for eight ASW crafts

The government-run Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) has received an order of eight anti-submarine warfare (ASW) shallow water crafts for the Indian Navy. The order is worth Rs. 6311.32 crore.

“The 1st ship is to be delivered within 42 months from the contract signing date and subsequent balance ships delivery schedule will be two ships per year,” stated a release issued by GRSE.

The craft, each with a displacement of 750 tons will be able to reach speeds of 25 knots. They will also be able to lay mines on the sea bed.

“These Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts are designed for a deep displacement of 750 Tons, Speed of 25 Knots and are capable of full-scale sub-surface surveillance of coastal waters and coordinated ASW operations with Aircraft,” stated the release.

The contract was signed between GRSE and the Defense Ministry on April 29 2019, and the crafts have to delivered within 84 months from the date of the contract.
