Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Thursday maintained that he did not want to take up ministership and preferred party work as he believes in doing one thing at a time.

The 39-year-old Amethi MP, who was the face of Congress campaign during the Lok Sabha elections, said his "imprint" is already in the Union Council of Ministers in the form of youngsters inducted in the government.

"I want to work for Congress party because I believe in doing one thing at a time. I do not believe in doing six jobs at one time. Then I cannot do justice to it (ministership)," Rahul told reporters after the swearing in of second batch of 59 ministers here.

He was responding to a question as to why he was not taking up ministership.

Earlier, Congress president Sonia Gandhi suggested that she wanted Rahul to be in the government.

"He (Rahul) is the reason. He is refusing to become a minister. He wants to work for the party," she said pointing to Rahul when asked about inadequate representation to Uttar Pradesh in the Union Council of Ministers.
