Last Updated 25 April 2017, 20:15 IST

India’s latest war-fighting doctrine flags the need for military exploration of the space besides raising specialised troops to operate in a nuclear environment.

Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba, who is also chairman of the chief of staff committee, on Tuesday released the doctrine and emphasised on joint planning and conduct of operations across all the domains of conflict that is land, air, sea, space and cyberspace.

Currently, Indian space programme is guided by the developmental, commercial and scientific needs. Top commanders from the integrated defence staff now underscored the need to explore the space military as well, defence ministry sources told DH.

This comes almost 10 years after China shook the world with its A-SAT test in which the communist country fired a missile to destroy a junk satellite.
