<p>Srinagar: An encounter erupted between security forces and militants in the Ramnagar area of Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday, with officials believing two to three terrorists are trapped at the scene.</p><p>Officials said the clash began after security forces initiated a search operation in the village of Jopher, Ramnagar. </p><p>“Contact was established with the hiding terrorists, leading to intense gunfire,” they said.</p>.Terror associate detained under Public Safety Act in J&K's Udhampur.<p>Initial reports indicate that two to three terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area, and the operation is ongoing. Additional reinforcements have been dispatched to assist in the effort.</p><p>The incident follows a similar event last week when three Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists were trapped near the Panjtirthi temple in Kathua district’s Billawar area, though they reportedly managed to escape from the cordon. In late March, a day-long gunfight in the forested region of Kathua district resulted in the deaths of two terrorists and four policemen.</p><p>Terrorist activities in the Jammu region have escalated in recent years. In 2024, eight out of ten districts in Jammu were rocked by terror attacks, resulting in the deaths of 44 people, including 18 security personnel and 13 militants.</p><p>To combat the growing threat and prevent Pakistan-based handlers from spreading terror in Jammu, authorities have intensified operations in coordination with the army, police, and central armed police forces.</p><p>These operations are focused on vulnerable areas, particularly in dense forests, where security measures have been reinforced, officials said. The footprints of the security forces have been increased in many areas where they were earlier reduced or completely withdrawn due to the improved security situation over the years.</p>
