<p>A total of 30 students fell ill after consuming stale food served at the Backward Classes and Minorities (BCM) Hostel at Chakavelu in the taluk on Saturday. <br /><br /></p>.<p>Of the 30 students, 18 complained of nausea and stomachache, and have now been admitted at the government hospital in Bagepalli. The students are: Mahesh, 15, Janardhana Reddy, 15, Dhananjay 14, G R Srinivas, 15, Madhu, 14, N Bharish, 15, Kiran, 11, N Vijay Kumar, 15, Anji, 15, Nagarjuna, 12, R Satish, 16, Prakash, 16, Praveen Kumar, 14, Santhosh, 15, Devendra, 14, Santhosh Naik, 15 and Aravinda Naik, 13. <br /><br />“Food served at the hostel is generally poor in quality and sometimes they even serve stale food,” complained a student. <br /><br />Hostel supervisor Basavaraj remains absent most of the times, hence, there is none to ensure that good administrative practices are maintained here, the student added;<br />District Additional Officer S S Pujar of the BCM Department told Deccan Herald that he will visit 10 BCM hostels in the taluk to find out what basic facilities are provided to inmates. <br /><br />“Hostel supervisors, in the coming days, will be asked to stay at the hostel and check the food before it is served to the students,” he added. <br /></p>
