All units to supply power to State only

Section 11 of Electricity Act 2003 invoked

The decision taken at a high-level meeting, headed by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Monday to review the power situation in the State. The move will help the State get an additional 600 MW which was being sold by private power generation units to consumers outside the State. Now, the power generated by the non-conventional means will have to be sold only to the State grid. 

Yeddyurappa, later addressing the mediapersons, said the Government was aware that the farmers require more water and power in April. “We will ensure 12-hour power supply in rural areas, including six hours three-phase and six hours single-phase,” he said.
The Government’s decision follows the High Court’s direction to give two hours of additional power to the rural areas in the State. While hearing a petition by G R Mohan challenging withdrawal of the order under Section 11 in 2008-09, the HC division bench on March 23 had told the State to supply additional power for the farmers till monsoon.
