The requirement is about 40-45 million metric standard cubic metres of gas per day (mmscmd).<br /><br />The State has been in dialogue with GAIL and Reliance; the government has signed an MoU with GAIL recently, to facilitate the laying of the Dabhol- Bangalore and Kochi-Bangalore gas pipelines. However, the source of gas and the pricing is yet to be firmed up by GAIL. The East-West Pipeline (EMPL) constructed by Reliance is passing through Karnataka. Reliance has been authorised by Karnataka to implement gas distribution projects in some districts.</p>
