<div>Vice President M Hamid Ansari would inaugurate the second university of the JSS Mahavidyap-eetha, JSS Science and Technology University on the premises of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE) here on July 23.<br /><br />Addressing media persons here on Wednesday, Vice Chancellor B G Sangameshwara said, “The Vice President will also lay the foundation stone for an academic block of the new university, being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 105 crore. While Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala will preside over the inaugural ceremony, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will launch the university’s website. Higher Education Minister Basavaraja Rayareddi, District in-charge Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa and others will participate. Seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami will grace the inaugural function,” he said.<br /><br />Sangameshwara said, while JSS University (which presently runs medicine-related institutions) was established under UGC Act, the JSS S&T University has been notified by the state government through a legislation on January 16, 2016, as a private university. “The students of third semester onwards of the SJCE would get their degree from the Visvesvaraya Technological University upon graduation. However, the students who are availing admissions from the current academic year will get their degrees from the new university. At present, there are 12 undergraduate and 16 postgraduate programmes, including MBA and MCA. New programmes will be introduced in future. <br /><br />This year, Corporate Finance in MBA and Data Management in MCA will be introduced. Next year, a School of Design will be established and courses in Architecture, Fashion Designing and Interior Designing will be launched,” he said.<br /><br />He said, the university has envisioned a number of international engagements and collaborations and would participate in an ever more connected world and will leverage its strengths for high quality teaching and research. “The university will closely update the curriculum with the help of advisory boards and equip the students with leadership qualities. The objective will be to innovate, be self-reliant and become outward-facing — committed to defining the future,” he said. Registrar K S Lokesh, SJCE principal Skhaeeb ur Rahman and professor Dhananjay were present.<br /></div>
