Members of Auto Drivers and Owners’ Union staged a roadblock and formed human chain after unidentified miscreants set fire to an autorickshaw in Madapura, at Kannada Circle in Suntikoppa on Sunday.

The autorickshaw belonged to one Shivarama alias Shivamani. He had parked the auto in front of his house in Madapura on Saturday night. The miscreants have set fire to the vehicle in the wee hours of Sunday.

Addressing the protesters, district BJP president B B Bharathish said Suntikoppa hobli had been peaceful in the recent past. However, vested interests have been attempting to disturb the peace. The miscreants, who set fire to the auto must be arrested, he added.

Zilla Panchayat member P M Lathif said there was a conspiracy to divide the society. The police should arrest the culprits immediately, he said.

Union president B K Prashanth said “Two autorickshaws have been set ablaze by miscreants in the recent past. The police should provide justice to the auto drivers by nabbing the culprits.”
