Seven tourist destinations including Badami have submitted their concept plans to the Union Ministry of Urban Development under the Heritage City scheme.

In Badami, the Karnataka government has proposed constructing a sullage treatment plant at Tattkote village, rejuvenating Agastya Teertha by creating alternative water sources and steps for preventing polluting activities on the river bank. The total cost of the project will be around Rs 22.26 crore.

The NDA Government in its first budget had announced the Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) with an outlay of Rs 500 crore for developing infrastructure around core heritage areas of 12 cities — Ajmer, Amravati, Amritsar, Badami, Dwaraka, Gaya, Kanchipuram, Mathura, Puri, Varanasi, Velankanni and Warangal — by March 2017.
