<p>Bangalore, the silicon valley of India, will have partnership status with the City of London, Ananth Kumar, MP and BJP General Secretary has said.<br /><br />Speaking at a reception in Honour of Dr Neeraj Patil, Lord Mayor of Lambeth Council, the first Kannadiga elected to such high post, Kumar said while Bangalore has "emerged as the top destination because of IT and Industrial hub," he was highly impressed with the "multi-racial and multi-cultural and multi-religious London city".<br /><br />He recalled that Sir Winston Churchill, the war time Prime Minister of Britain, who lived in Bengaluru, self-educating for three years between 1893-96.<br /><br />The former Union Civil Aviation Minister also presented a book on Bangalore to Keith Vaz, Chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee and organiser of the event.<br />Praising Vaz, the longest serving Asian MP in British history, for championing the cause of Indians, Kumar said, "Earlier I was an admirer of Keith Vaz and now I have become his fan".<br /><br />Noting that Dr Patil has the potential to become a Labour MP in Britain, Kumar said if he was willing, the BJP would offer him a seat to contest from Karnataka to the Indian Parliament.<br /><br />Vaz, who has already launched a mobile testing unit for diabetes in Goa through the Silver Star charity founded by him, announced that he would raise funds to start a mobile testing unit for diabetes in Bangalore<br /><br />In Goa, the mobile bus known as a Mobile Diabetes Assessment Unit was launched by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan that can test for diabetes within minutes.<br />According to the fourth edition of the World Diabetes Atlas released in Montreal, by 2010 about 50.8 million Indians in the 20-79 age group will suffer from diabetes, rising to 87 million by 2030 - the highest in the world.<br /><br />However, most Indians do not have easy access to diagnostic centres - a gap that mobile units can help plug.<br /><br />The bus, which comes with testing equipment, a bed and washing facilities, will travel across Bangalore providing free diabetes testing.</p>
