<p>Davangere: A bank gold loan officer's luck ran out on him when the police came knocking on his doors to recover the gold that he had stolen and mortgaged from where he worked to lead a ultra-lavish lifestyle. Apparently inspired by movie '<em>Lucky Bhaskar</em>' played by Dulquer Salmaan, accused T P Sanjay (33) treaded the wrong path to raise crores of money only to lead extravagant life. </p><p>The police recovered 3 kgs, 643 gms of gold ornaments that Sanjay stole from Catholic Syrian Bank, where he worked as a gold loan officer. Sanjay managed to mortgage 2 kg s, 744 gms of fake gold ornaments at the bank where he worked to raise a loan of Rs 1.52 crore. He had raised the loan in the name of his friends and family. The bank officials never suspected the foul play, as he was the authority for pawn brokering.</p><p>Sanjay did not stop at that, he even stole genuine gold ornaments worth Rs 2 crore that many of bank's customers had pledged and had mortgaged them in a nationalised bank and a private finance company to raise money.</p>.Suhas Shetty murder case: Mangaluru CCB arrests three more, total arrests rise to 11.<p>Superintendent of Police Uma Prashanth told mediapersons here Wednesday that the accused had been working as a gold loan officer at Catholic Syrian Bank since October 2024. It was his responsibility to check the gold ornaments and create documents by mortgaging them. He used this opportunity to steal genuine gold ornaments in stages and the bank officials never suspected foul play.</p><p>He had mortgaged the stolen gold in nationalised banks and private finance in the name of his father, mother and himself and had taken loans worth crores of rupees. He spent most of the money on online gambling and entertainment, she explained.</p><p>His luck ran out when the bank officials conducted an audit of the gold ornaments and loan accounts in April. During the auditing, it was found that the gold mortgaged by customers had been stolen. The bank officials, who checked the CCTV, approached KTJ Nagar police station. When the accused was taken into custody and questioned, he spilled the beans that he had in fact, stolen the gold ornaments and had mortgaged elsewhere. </p><p>Accused Sanjay, a BCA graduate, was working as a gold ornament pawnbroker in private finance companies. The accused landed a job at the Catholic Syrian Bank only last year.</p><p>The bank had appreciated Sanjay for managing to mortgage a large amount of gold ornaments in a short period of time. </p>
