Beat committee to meet regularly: DCP

DCP (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya said that the beat committee meetings will be held in every police station limits on a regular basis to address to people’s grievances.

During the 101st weekly phone-in programme at the city police commissionerate office on Friday, the DCP said that 30 to 40 beats are identified in every station limit and each beat is assigned to a police personnel. The personnel will conduct beat committee meetings every month to provide a platform to discuss grievances. The system is in effect and police officials will be asked to conduct the meet compulsorily.

Responding to a complaint on haphazard parking of vehicles, the DCP said that the defaulters will be made to pay heavy fines for illegal parking. The vehicles will be towed away. Four towing vehicles will be introduced in the city in the next 15 days.

Another grievance was on fish lorry menace. Hanumatharaya said, two police teams will be deployed to check fish transport lorries discharging waste water on the road. Cases will be registered against owners violating rules, and the vehicles will be seized.

A person complained that an AITUC leader has been collecting ‘hafta’ from labourers in Yeyyadi.

During the programme, the callers shared grievances regarding encroachment of footpaths on Central Market Road, lack of signboards and reflectors near BGS School, Kavoor, shrill horns, incomplete road works on the KSRTC-Bejai Road, damaged road humps at Jeppu-Mahakalipadpu, lack of footpath opposite Kankanady bus stand, lack of drainage in Kavoor and stray dog menace in Falnir.
