A 65-year-old woman was found strangled at her residence in Balagere Road in Varthur area on Tuesday.

The killers have made away with Rs 25,000 in cash and a gold chain from her house, the police said.

According to the police, Manjula lived with her son Nagaraj, a manager in a private company, daughter-in-law and a granddaughter. She was alone at home when the incident occurred.
The incident came to light when the granddaughter returned home from college on Tuesday afternoon and found Manjula lying on the bathroom floor with a saree around her neck.

She was bound and gagged. The girl is said to have informed the police with the help of her neighbours.

The police visited the spot with forensic experts and a dog squad to collect evidence.
They suspect that someone known to them has committed the murder.

The miscreants must have studied the movements of the family members and committed the crime when Manjula was alone at home, the police said.
