<p>Ranya Rao was extended VIP protocol at the Bengaluru airport on the instructions of her stepfather DGP K Ramachandra Rao, according to the policeman who was part of the protocol. </p>.<p>The police escort helped her skip frisks and checks. Similarly, he was asked by his senior Ramachandra Rao (DGP) to assist his family members and relatives by extending protocol during their arrival and departure,” the DRI statement reads. </p>.<p><em>DH</em> has reviewed a copy of the statement. According to Basavaraj, while he had known Ranya for the last few years through protocol procedure, he had nothing to do with the gold seized from her. </p>.<p>The policeman revealed that Ranya had called him on the day of the arrest and sought protocol assistance, saying she would be flying in at around 6.20 pm from Dubai. Basavaraj said he accompanied her after she deplaned and arrived at the Green Channel for exit. </p>.<p>Basavaraj said he had provided protocol assistance to Ranya three to four times in the past, but did not remember the exact dates and time. </p>.<p>On this occasion, he was accompanied by Dhanush Kumar, a head constable with the state intelligence. </p>.<p>In his statement to the DRI, Kumar said he didn’t know Ranya earlier and had met her for the first time and he was there on Basavaraj’s insistence. Basavaraj informed the DRI that Kumar was his friend and he had asked Kumar to accompany him.</p>
