Assamese man arrested for murdering lover, dumping body in garbage truck

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru police arrested a man from Assam for allegedly murdering his lover over a domestic dispute and disposing of her body in a BBMP garbage truck, police officials said on Monday.

Around 1.45 am on Sunday, Mohamad Mustaf M, 43, a software engineer, discovered the body stuffed in a gunny bag while disposing of trash in the truck. Noticing hair and blood, he alerted the CK Achukattu police.

The suspect, Mohammed Samshuddin, 32, had been living with the victim, Asha alias Pushpa (40) at his house in Hulimavu. Both worked for a housekeeping services firm, where they met.

The police said Asha, a widow from Bengaluru, had two adopted children staying in a hostel. Samshuddin was married, but his wife and children lived in Assam. He moved to Bengaluru nearly one-and-a-half years ago.

“They lived together at the suspect’s house for the past five or six months,” a police officer said. The couple often quarrelled. On June 28, Asha came home intoxicated, reportedly a frequent occurrence.

“This led to a heated argument. In a fit of rage, the suspect strangled her to death. There were also suspicions about her relationship with another man,” the officer added.

Samshuddin allegedly wrapped the body in a blue polythene bag, placed it in a white gunny sack, carried it on his two-wheeler, and dumped it in a BBMP garbage truck parked near the Sports Complex in CK Achukattu.

“He was roaming around deserted places looking for a spot to dispose of the body and carried it for several kilometres,” the officer said.

The police recovered the body, in black trousers and a red company t-shirt, and registered a murder case. CCTV footage and technical analysis led to Samshuddin’s arrest in Hulimavu.

“Investigations revealed the two posed as husband and wife. Further probe is underway,” said Lokesh B Jagalasar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).
